Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were contacted by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
